Teacher Profile

Hello! It is my pleasure to welcome you to DoRe Mimosa Piano Studio! My name is Natalie and I have opened this studio with the vision of enriching people’s lives with the ability to create music and express themselves through this art-form. I have been teaching piano and accompanying graded violin exams for nine years and my passion and motivation for continual improvement continues to grow. After completing all my schooling in Christchurch, I moved to Auckland to study a Bachelor of Music (Honours) for four years under the tutelage of world-renowned teacher Dr. Rae de Lisle. During this time I worked in many music schools around Auckland and taught numerous beginners. Through these broad teaching experiences I believe that any child can learn to play the piano and place significant importance on setting up a student correctly from the beginning.

In my Honours year I majored in studio pedagogy and during this time specifically concentrated on teaching Grade 1-8 repertoire from the ABRSM, Trinity and NZMEB syllabuses. Areas of research and presentation included: “Practice Techniques in Grade 1-5 Repertoire” and “Levers in Piano Playing: Using Different Levers of the Body for Musical Expression”. This researched informed me of practice techniques to increase student motivation and achieve faster results, and affirmed the notion that students are capable of creating varying musical expression depending on which lever of the body is used.

At University I was introduced to the Suzuki Method and completed official training with leading Australasian Suzuki teachers to be a certified Suzuki piano teacher. I identify with many of Dr. Suzuki’s principles and strongly believe the Suzuki Method is the most effective approach for teaching young, beginner students.

I am passionate about instilling the love of music in young students and helping them share this with the world. I cater to the needs and goals of every individual student and support them in their different musical journeys.

Schedule a no-obligation consulation today. I look forward to meeting you!
